I have worked as a Financial Advisor for 30 years, but 5 years ago I set up Alison Gregory Wealth Management.

I started my career as a Banking Cashier and progressed within the Banking structure, I worked for banks for 25 years. During this time, I gained my IFS Level 4 Diploma for Financial Advisers.

A typical working day for me starts around 7.30am, and I finish about 6pm, but I also take calls and answer e-mails out of “normal” working hours. I always pick up e-mails 1stthing in the morning and respond or delegate to members of my team.

I like to plan my day ahead and make sure I have time in the office with my Team to hand over files from the day before.

Some of my days are spent in client meetings and very often I’ll travel to meet them in their homes or offices. Between client meetings return calls and e-mails, as well as completing e-mail handovers to relevant member of staff with details of next steps and actions.

On a Monday morning, we always have a team meeting to look at previous week, workloads and plan for week ahead as a Team. In between all of the above I go Networking as well as doing CPD, ongoing study and re-evaluations.

The best thing about my job is that I get to meet lots of interesting people and help them to plan for their futures. I also love being out and about.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve built a successful business and employing wonderful staff.

For anyone who’s thinking of being a Financial Advisor, I’d tell then to be prepared for a lot of studying and hard work, I wish someone had warned me before I’d started!
